Miyajima Japan also known as “Itsukushima” is a wonderful day trip from Hiroshima. Hop on a train and head to the majestic Island.An island located at an entrance to a cove in Northwest Hiroshima Bay in the Setonaikai National Park.
Plan your trip at high tide to see the looming Majestic Orange O-Torii Floating Gate casting a surreal reflection. First, let us see what is happening on Miyajima Island.

Orange Tori
At low tide the tori gate stands tall over the brown tidal sand where you can walk out to view the tori on Miyajima Japan. Great pictures of the tori can be taken from the elegant Shrine Itsukushima Jinja a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There is a minimal fee to enter but worth the look. Walk along the wooden boardwalks past the shine to find a great photographic spot. Only a 10 minute walks from the waterfront.

Is a shrine floating on the sea.
Mount Misen
Hike this virgin mountain full or rocks with interesting shapes and sizes.
Ropeway
Miyajima Pier – Exit Pier to the right and follow the path
Omotesando Shopping Aracade Path – turn right onto the Omotesdanso Shopping Aracade. Pass the free roaming deer.
Ishidorii Stone Tori – Stop here then take a glance along with photos of the Otorii (Orange Torii) as you walk by.
Itsukushima Shrine – respectively walk through here with a look out for a great spot to take a photo the Otorii. Continue through the shrine to the next temple
Daiganji Temple – go back out the temple to the Takinokoji Path towards this next shrine. There is a WC located in this area. Walk pass the Awashima Shrine to the next temple or turn left here to continue on the journey.
Daishoin Temple – go back down the path and turn right at the Awashima Shrine on Momiji Path to the next temple
Shinomyia Temple – located on the Momiji Path.
Red Bridge (Akihashi) – located on the Momiji Path. Great place for photos.
Momijidani Ropeway Station
Catch the ropeway to the trails to Mt. Misen summit that leads to the hiking paths on Mt. Misen which measures 530 meter high. Go early and take less than an hour hiking to the peak. Don’t forget your comfortable walking/hiking shoes, hat and water. See views of islands that dot the water, lush maple trees, blooming flowers and singing birds can be seen and heard and will take your breath away.

A One Day Adventure Map that worked well for us that allowed enough time to explore Mt. Misen, have lunch and so some shopping before returning back to the Pier to catch the boat back.

Start:

After returning from the Ropeway, follow the path back to town and stop at some wonderful local gift shops. Don’t forget to try one of the tasty strawberry ice treats. The Island of Miyajima Japan is a 25 minute train ride from Hiroshima. Walk to the dock and catch a ferry. Once on the island stop at the TA for a brochure. You can rent bikes or like I did, just walk and enjoy the scenery.Old Districts of Miyajima
