Kyoto Cherry Blossom season in Japan is almost here. Time for a journey to see one of the most beautiful places in the world to see the magnificent cherry blossoms. Nothing can describe standing under the light pink blossoms on a tree, then when the wind blows be surrounded by blossoms that looks like snow. A smile crosses you face and all you see is beauty. The feeling is so amazing.
Each year with changing temperatures, rain and wind all have a strong effect on the blooming process. I will share with you the latest Kyoto’s forecast on some of my other favorite cities. This way you can try to plan you visit, since this is a busy time of year for tourists. Let us take a look at the forecast, places to take the best photographs of cherry blossoms.

Best Places To Visit – Kyoto Cherry Blossoms
- Kyoto Botanical Garden – famous for viewing both type of cherry trees.
- Ginkakuju Temple
- Kyoto Imperial Palace Park – located in the northwest corner
- Philosopher’s Path – stroll the path that follows the canal and see the hundreds of trees that line the path. This path is a great walk between two temples.
- Maruyama Park – this spot great for seeing blooms at night. Cherry Trees are lit in the evening.
- Arashiyama (Togetsukyo Bridge) – See the cherry blossoms by walking across the bridge.
- Sagano Scenic Railway – hop on the train and enjoy and slow paced ride and enjoy the beautiful blooms.
- Haradanien Garden – located above the Kinkakuji Temple in the hills is great for late blooming cherry trees.
Location – Kyoto Cherry Blossom
Kyoto is laid out in a grid pattern and is easy to navigate. Kyoto Station is the city’s main station and is located at the southern end of the city. Most of the attractions are further north of the Kyoto Station Area and can be reached by taxi or local buses. Stop by the Kyoto Tourist Information Center (TIC) on the 2nd floor to obtain your City Map, Map for Tourist, and a City Bus Sightseeing Map.
Directions: Osaka Japan has a International Airport to fly in to. The JR Train from Osaka to Kyoto costs approximately Y540 and takes 30 min. Keihan and HankyuLines Express Trains which take 50 min and cost between Y390 and Y460. They depart every 15 minutes from Osaka’s Yodoyabashi and Umeda Stations.
Transportation Around Town – Kyoto Cherry Blossoms
Transportation around Kyoto can be done by bus, taxi and cars. First thing I suggest is to go by and pick up a Bus Route Map & Schedule from the Tourist Office. During this time of year, there will be lots of visitors to view the amazing Cherry Blossoms. Be prepared the buses will be full of visitors, locals, and school kids. There will be lots of walking from bus stops and around the temples. Be patient, you will get to your destinations. Taxis are easy to use but not always available.

Hi Tracy, I have yet so see the Cherry Blossoms in Washington DC yet which I bet would be beautiful. Hope you make it to Japan to see them there especially Kyoto where there are so many temples. It makes me smile to stand under the tree and have the blossoms swirl around when the wind blows.

Hi Sharon, Cherry Blossoms in Japan is so magically especially with the backdrop of some ancient temples. I have not seen them in Washington DC but might need to take a trip there at that time of the year. Still partial to visiting Kyoto for Cherry blossoms 😊
Seeing the cherry blossoms in person would be so cool. It’s something I’d really love to do. So far getting there has been the biggest issue. The season is so popular flights from Dubai have been chockas every time I’ve tried. Never say never though, I’ll get there one day and in the meantime, I can look at your stunning pics. Thanks Shona, Hope you get a chance to visit Kyoto for any season. Cherry Blossoms are beautiful but like you mentioned flights are hard to get. Some of the photos here are stock this time but are mentioned. I mostly use my own photos for my posts feels a little more personal 😊

Oh useful to see when the cherry blossoms will come out. I have to say that I don’t know what all the fuss is about regarding cherry blossom, but I think that’s probably because I’ve never seen them. When I do, maybe I’ll love them too!!

When I arrived in Kyoto and saw the many trees with these bright pink cherry blossoms that look beautiful, then a gust of wind comes up and to be standing among blowing blossoms that looks like falling snow. A happy peaceful moment & feeling I will never forget. Hope you get a chance to experience that.

Hi Shruti, yes certain cities have an increase of tourist during Cherry Blossom Season. Kyoto is one due to the many temples among these cherry blossoms that make for a wonderful viewing.
This is one of those things that must be so amazing to see in person. The colors in the photos are just beautiful. We saw some of the cherry blossom trees just before they started to bloom in Washington DC, and I’d really love to see the full bloom of them in Japan!

Hi, The cherry blossoms would be so cool to see them. On one of my many visits I missed the peak bloom by about a week. So its so hard to get it spot on for the full impact. It was fun anyway to see some starting to open while visiting the temples.
