Oh my goodness, we have camped here! The sunset was incredible and we felt like we were in the middle of nowhere, it was awesome. I highly recommend camping there one time, it’s truly wild π
Hi Scarlett, How exciting you actually camped there at Calico. Lots of open land and a beautiful sky to see the stars at night. I agree camping there once would be great. I have only been there during the day so I must bring out the camping gear and go for it… π
I have always wanted to visit one of those ghost towns! I think it would make a good set for photographs! Will have to pack those cowboy boots hey!
Hi Kreete,
I agree, great place for photos along with those cowboy boots!
Exploring a ghost town seems to be such an interesting thing. Touching the history and exploring all the details is a great way to spend an unforgettable weekend
Yes, it is a great way to spend a weekend. Walking into a Ghost Town is like going back in time. Then add the Holiday Festival and that makes it fun! π
Calico looks like such an Instagrammable town. I love photographing these ghost towns. It really must come to life when the festival is on though, it sounds like a scene from an American movie!
Hi James, Calico does look like a town with great Instagram spots for good photos. How cool you love to photograph ghost towns.
I would love to put on a pair of cowboy boots and head to Calico Ghost Town, it sounds like a cool place to hang out for the holidays and I haven’t heard of it before, so thanks for bringing it to my attention. Pinned! #feetdotravel
Thanks Angie,
Calico Ghost Town makes me want to also put on a pair of cowboy boats! The Holiday Festival looks like a cool fun day there.
This looks like a bit of fun. I must get a pair of cowboy boots for occasions such as these. π
Hi Shona,
I agree I also need to get a pair of cowboy boots too! π
It’s been a long time since I’ve been to a western ghost town, but I have such fond family memories! I’d love to go and take the kids!
Hi Carmen,
Calico would be great place to take the kids! Let’s the kids see what the wild west was like π
Iβm a bit of a history geek and love these old places with a bit of historical background. Would love to check this place out and even better that itβs a ghost town. There still a lot of the US that Iβve got to see.
Hi Barry,
Calico falls in that category π Great history along where one can capture some cool photos!
I used to like Calico a lot, but after I discovered other more authentic ghost towns I find it rather commercial now. I didn’t know they have a Holiday Festival there. It must be quite fun. #TheWeeklyPostcard
Hi Anda,
I am sure there are other ghost towns to visit π but Calico’s Holiday Festival I agree looks like fun!
Oooh – Love exploring a ghost town! I vaguely remember Calico from many years ago. There’s a festival now? Obviously, time to go back. π That night picture, and also the blue of the mountains – wow! Gorgeous! Also, I don’t think we’ve mentioned – love the new layout. π Thanks for linking up with #TheWeeklyPostcard & #WeekendWanderlust, too.
Thanks Rob & Ann,
I also didn’t know Calico had a festival when growing up. The festival looks like fun! Unfortunately, those are not my photos. I usually post my own photos but did not have any for the festival. Glad you like the new layout π
what a coincidence, I just wrote a post mentioning Calico as well. #TheWeeklyPostcard
Hi Shere,
How great you also wrote a post mentioning Calico. I just checked out your article which is cool by the way π I will have to put a link in my blog to your article especially since you covered some great adventures on your travels on Route 66. That would be cool! If you feel inclined, a link back to mine would be great too!
Wow, $20 million dollars from silver ore over a 12-year period must have been amazing in 19 century! Such Ghost towns like Calico give me always a bit of a creepy feeling π
Hi Marcelle,
That was a lot of money made from the silver ore mine at Calico. I agree a bit creepy, but a wonderful place for photos and some history π
I have passed so many times by this town (mostly when going to Vegas) but have never stopped. I didn’t know about the Holiday Festival. You have given me a great idea!
Hi Ruth,
I also passed it to on the way to Vegas. A holiday festival for fun!
We are in the middle of planning a road trip around California, I might have to add Calico into our future plans. I don’t know why but I love going to old mining towns and envisaging what they used to be like.
Hi Sarah,
How fun an California road trip. A trip to Calico will not disappoint especially for the holiday festival or any time. Old mining towns are cool to see what life was like years ago π
I feel like I’ve been here before when I was a little girl! Hard to tell though! #FeetDoTravel
