Hong Kong
An
Expat Adventure
Enjoy the many flavors of Hong Kong where the east meets west. ย Hear the many languages being spoken from all over the world. ย A place where this expat travel adventurer went toย relax and enjoy the wonderful eclectic food. ย Visit one of the tasty Michelin Restaurants or street food from the many stalls that line the streets. ย Go on a day trip, mingle with the locals and feel the vibe of this fast moving city. It’s truly up to you on how you would like to spend your Adventure.
Iโm getting excited as I sit here by the pool at the waterfront Intercontinental Hotel in Kowloon. ย Enjoying my lunch, ย listening to the birds singing, ferry horns blowing, palm trees rustling anticipating the evening arrival of Chinese New Year Fireworks. ย Take a lookout over to the harbor and see cruise ships, junkets and hundreds of apartment buildings dotting the skyline. ย This city is filled with hundreds of people living and visiting this fantastic place. ย A crowded, busy and fun adventure awaits.
Let us visit these activities of Hong Kong.ย
We will go by Victoria Park, see the Avenue of Stars then do some shopping at Mongkok. ย Next, take a day trip to Maccu on the turbo jet. ย Here are the details to help you plan your fun activities.
Activities – Hong Kong
Victoria Peak
Set out early for your day trip to Victoria Peak and take in a scenic view from the top at Ngoni Ping Village.ย The village is located on the peak at the end of the tram on Hong Kong Island. You can take the busy tram, hike up the foot path or like I; take the easy way up by bus. The bus can be found at the ferry dock or along its route.
At the peak enjoy lunch at โBubba Gumpโs Restaurantโ (yummy) that over hangs the mountain and gives a wonderful view while eating. ย Then do a little shopping in one of the many stores nearby.ย There are also other restaurants to choose from at the top.
Feeling guilty for the easy ride up, then enjoy a hike down the footpath that takes approx. 30 min. ย At the bottom reward yourself with a Starbucks coffee. ย While hiking down make sure to encourage the hikers brave enough to make the trek up the ever steep path.ย Breath a sigh of relief that it wasnโt you hiking up to the peak but kidding aside that would be a great way to the peak. ย Now it is time to visit the Avenue of Stars.
Avenue of Stars
Walk along the Avenue of Stars in Kowloon as the path goes along the waterfront where you can see the skyline.ย Day or night a great place to take pictures especially at sunset. ย The Avenue of Starts officially starts the New World Shopping Center.ย The walk runs parallel to Salisbury Road almost to the Hong Kong Coliseum. ย Let us check out the shopping.
Mongkok Shopping
Next take a walk through the Mongkok Shopping Area and see the many eclectic stores and street artists. Be wary in some of the electronic stores along the street; items are not always what they seem.ย Walk with the flow of people side to side and don’t be surprised by the many different smells that seem to take over your senses. ย Look down some side alleys at the many stalls that sell trinkets. ย If youโre lucky listen for the drums and catch a glimpse of a Dragon Dance. ย Watch your belongings in here.
Go where old meets new and visit Nan Lian Garden, St. Johnโs Cathedral, Ten Thousandย Buddhasย and more. ย On my next trip I want to take a Flight Experience in an original flight simulator. ย Now it’s time for Macau.
Macau
Take a TurboJet from Hong Kong to Macau.ย See the Portuguese influence and play a few hands of Baccarat or do some high end shopping in stores. ย Walk by Prada, Tiffany’s, & Louis Vuitton and have fun. ย Well known casinos are here; Venetian, MGM, Wynn, and Sands. ย All accessible by a free shuttle from the ferry to the casinos located out the door from the ferry.ย Don’t forget to visit the Historic District and the famous UNESCO World Heritage Historical Sites.ย Take the leisurely walking tour and explore.

Hong Kong has to be one of my favourite cities. The diversity of the people, the food and the landscape. One minute being in the street whizzing around in a taxi and next on a beautiful mountain hike or visiting the beaches. So easy to get around with public transport and visiting Macau is a no-brainer. Yes, I love it! ๐
Hi Shona,
I see you like Hong Kong as much as I do. You are right its the diversity of the food, people and landscape. I am ready for a trip back there ๐
Happy Travels!
Hong Kong is a really vibrant place. We had a great time when we were there. Loved the views from Victoria Peak and the ride up to it. The boat with the red sails remains etched in memory.
Hi Sandy, Hong Kong is a vibrant place. Glad you had a great time there too. I am ready to go for another visit and maybe hike up to Victoria Peak…๐
Hong Kong looks a vibrant city , would love to visit. We would enjoy Bubba Gumps too! Thanks for sharing, have pinned. #feetdotravel
Thanks Paul and Carole, Hong Kong I agree is so vibrant one can feel the pulse of the city. The view from Bubba Gumps Restaurant makes up for eating at a chain restaurant…๐
We loved Hong Kong when we made a stopover, loved how busy and chaotic it is, did some of your suggestions, but not Macau, I think we go to Asia again and land ourselves another stopover then this is something we’ll do next time ๐
Hi Garth,
That is wonderful you were able to find a few of my suggestions to do while in Hong Kong. Love the crazy busy atmosphere of the city. If you make it over to Macau the ferry works well as I suggest in the blog but there is also an old city center that has some historical buildings. On my next trip over to Macau that is were I would love to spend some time ๐
It surprises me positively that you can hear birds singing in a town like Hong Kong. That’s the beauty of staying in a hotel with a nice garden and surrounded by trees.
Hi Marcelle,
I was luckily sitting on the hotel roof where there were lots of trees and the birds singing as I overlook the river and city. ๐ With the diverse landscape of Hong Kong Victoria Park is another wonderful place to be with nature.
Happy Travels!
I want to experience all of these! I went once to Shanghai and loved it. Everything was so different and interesting! I know Hong Kong is different. I am dying to taste some of that good food found there! #feetdotravel
Ruth, Hong Kong is a fascinating place and hope you get a chance to try some yummy food there. There is so much fun & interesting things to do there! ๐
I love the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong and have visited many times. Thereโs something about the east meets west that I find so fascinating. I grew up watching Cantonese Gung Fu films so Hong Kong mega star Bruce Lee was always an Icon.
Barry,
Hong is fascinating and always on the move. I am sad that I missed the chance to take a photo of the Bruce Lee statue and learn more about his life. Thats great that you’ve been to Hong Kong many times ๐

We loved Hong Kong and did most of what you have suggested, including Bubba Gump’s lol. We didn’t make it to Macau so when we return (which we will do), we intend to check this out. I had a great time reading this post though, it brought back wonderful memories and I was mentally there with you on your tour.
Thanks Angie, How funny with both visited Bubba Gumps. Hong Kong was fun and exciting and I would love to go back. If you visit Macau there is an old town section which looks real cool and would take almost all day to visit. I didn’t get a chance to go there but its worth looking into. Macau reminded me so much of Las Vegas which I have been to many times but still had to check out the casinos. Your blog on Hong was great along with your photos. Lets see where Hong Kong takes us next time ๐
