2.Β Bow Valley ParkwayΒ
Located on Hwy 1A has an open year-round scenic drive 48 km between Banff and Lake Louise.Β Stop in Lake Louise to view the wildlife, plus hiking trails where you can hike through Johnston Canyon and many places for a picnic.Β One can also stay in the campgrounds or one of the unique cottages.
3.Β Icefields ParkwayΒ
This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a must do.Β A 230km drive right through the Canadian Rocky Mountain Park that winds through year old glaciers, dramatic rock formations, wide valleys and emerald lakes.Β Tip:Β Lots of Photo opportunities.
4.Β Lake Minnewanka LoopΒ
Take in a glacial lake, cascading waterfall, scenic canyon and parts of a coal mining town on this loop. Lake Minnewanka is the largest Lake.Β Go for a boat ride, have a picnic, hike, biking and in winter go cross-country skiing or do a winter walk.
5.Β Banff Upper Hot SpringsΒ
Time to relax in the upper hot springs outdoor pool with hot mineral rich water.Β View the jagged peaks in this year-round pool thatβs open daily.Β Then visit the gift shop and cafΓ© while there.
One of the most photographed locations along with Victoria Glacier in the Canadian Rockies.Β Great for horseback riding, climbing, canoeing, amazing hikes with stunning scenery.Β Tip: In summer visit before 9am or after 7pm to avoid the large crowds.
7.Β Banff Legacy Trail
Take in the breathtaking view along this paved path and roadway that spans 29km from Travel Albertaβs Visitor Center in Canmore to Bow Valley Parkway.Β Great for cyclists, runners, and walkers to take in this amazing view.Β Have a picnic, visit Vermilion Lakes and other popular trails on your adventure.
8.Β Β Moraine Lake
Also known as the βTen Peaksβ offers a dramatic view for photographers.Β Tip:Β In winter, Moraine Lake Road is closed to vehicles.Β It becomes a very popular cross-country ski trail.
9.Β Β Vermilion Lakes Drive
Explore this 4.3 km pave road thatβs open to walkers, bikers or by car to catch a sight of some interesting wildlife.Β Stop for a rest on a bench or at the docks and take in this awe-inspiring view.Β Tip:Β Photo opportunity to snap a photo of Mount Rundle.

Park camping would be exciting to take in the majestic landscapes.Β Camp sites range from rustic to full service that takes in a mountain view.Β Variety of choices are from a traditional tent to RV site, oTENTik cabin like site or a convenient equipped campsite.Β See their website for more information.
Tips – Banff National Park
- Human food kills wildlife.Β Please do not leave food unattended or feed the wildlife.
- Do not litter.Β If you litter this feed the wildlife.Β Bins are available for garbage and recycled products.
- Properly Store all food and scented items.Β Example: coolers, pet food bowls, BBQβs, dishes, food, bottles/cans, sunscreen, shampoo, toothpaste and more.
- Keep picnic area and campsite clear.
- Do not approach wildlife.Β Please give them space.
- Keep pets on a leash to keep them safe.
- Slow down when driving if you see wildlife.Β Stay in the car for safety.
- Keep children close by at all times for safety.
- Make sure to pick up a Parks Discover Pass

Beautiful scenery and loads of walking/ cycling paths to get some exercise. Always a good thing when on vacation. I noticed Mr. 1adventuretraveler can also take lovely pics. π

I have wanted to visit this park for a long time. I know it is one of the more breathtaking places in the planet. I have read about the mountains and lakes but I forget visitors have the opportunity to stop by hot springs too. I like all the tips you included at the end of the post. We all need to take care of places like this (and we can start doing that by following the rules established). #feetdotravel
Thanks Ruth, A visit to the hot springs is a must on your visit to Banff. So much to see and do there. They do have some good rules which helps keep the bears away and us safe plus keep it clean. I will look for your article when you take a trip there! π
Ah Banff is high on my list of places to see when I do eventually go back to Canada – the natural beauty is simply stunning and there is so much to see and do. Heard the hiking is superb and the lakes you mention are definitely worth exploring!
