Enjoy a day trip off Geoje Island to the Hallyeosudo, Tongyeong” Cable Car in the Hallyeohaesang National Marine Park. Gather the kids, husband, visiting family or just friends and go on an another expat day trip from 1Adventure Traveler.
Drive out to Tongyeong, South Korea and see the magnificent views from one of the 47 cable cars available. Each cable car holds up to 8 people that go from the lower depot at the Donam Tourist Complex to the upper depot located below the peak of Mt. Mireuksan. The ride takes approximately 10 minutes. The Tongyeong Cable Car is the site of the historical victory of Hansandaecheop.
Upon reaching the upper depot, disembark and walk up the stairs approximately another 10 minutes to see the most magnificent views from the observation deck. On a clear sunny day one can see some islands off the coast of Japan.
Now if you’re really adventurous, there are hiking trails up to the peak but I would save that for another day. Just enjoy the cable car ride up and take in the views. Take a hat and water and wear comfortable shoes. If you cannot walk up the stairs from the upper depot to the observation deck there are a few places to sit and wait for the others to return.

Cost is approximately W9, 000 with a discount for children. There has been a notice of some closures on a Monday. Ample free parking and be aware that lines for the cable car can be long on weekends so I suggest going early.
Operating time is around 0930 to 1700, 1800 or 1900 depending on the season. Reminder all information is subject to change without notice. Approximate travel time from Okpo to Tongyeong is 40 minutes.
